Ultrasonic flowmeters are among the more mature products in the field of non-contact flowmeters. The ultrasonic measurement principle also brings a variety of advantages that other flowmeters cannot obtain, such as easy installation and use, large measurement range, and bidirectional measurement, under the premise of the same accuracy and resolution. Let's take a closer look at the advantages of ultrasonic flowmeters.

 

1. Easy installation

 

Ultrasonic flowmeters support external clamp-on installation, which does not require modification of the original pipeline. The installation cost is low, and the pipeline design does not need to be designed for the installation of measurement instruments. The installation process does not affect the normal use of the pipeline;

 

2. Insensitive to the properties of the measured medium

 

Contact measurement instruments need to consider the loss caused by various reactions between the sensor part and the measured medium, such as corrosion, rust, and deposits. The non-contact measurement of ultrasonic flowmeters avoids the influence of the flow rate of the measured section of the pipeline, with a small flow loss;

 

3. Large measurement range

 

Because the speed of ultrasound in liquid is usually around 1500m/s, which is much higher than the measured flow speed, this determines the high measurement limit. Since the non-contact measurement does not require the measured medium to push the mechanical parts, the measurement lower limit is low, and the measurement accuracy is the same for low flow;

 

4. Bidirectional measurement

 

Mechanical flowmeters are limited by their structure and cannot respond to reverse flow or can respond to reverse flow but cannot express the flow direction in the output signal. Ultrasonic flowmeters can correctly measure the flow rate of both forward and reverse flow because they use time difference measurement methods;

 

5. Simple maintenance

 

Due to the advantages of external installation on the pipeline, maintenance and repair of the equipment can be carried out without emptying the liquid in the pipeline, with a small impact on production. Because there is no problem of impurities accumulation and sensor loss, the maintenance interval is longer.
